Johnson named IIAC Player of the Week

INDIANOLA, Iowa – After leading Simpson's improbable run to a third-place finish at the Iowa Conference Tournament last week, Simpson shortstop Dave Johnson (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) earned Iowa Conference Player of Week honors for the period ending May 16, the conference office announced late Monday.

Johnson hit a team-best .522 with two home runs and nine RBIs as fifth-seeded Simpson went 3-2 at the Iowa Conference Baseball Tournament. Johnson collected four hits, five RBIs, and hit two home runs in the Storm's 10-4 win over Luther in the team's first elimination game. Johnson ended the season with 10 home runs, the most by a Simpson player since Mike Donnenwerth hit 12 in 2004.

Johnson earned the award for the second time this season after taking home the honor on March 22.
