Bio

Matt Young was one in a long line of dominant Simpson wrestlers who took the mat in the 90s and 2000s. Young advanced to nationals four times and was crowned an All-American with a third-place finish at 142 pounds in 1999. That year, he won 44 matches, the second most in school history. He went 141-54 during his career, good for third on Simpson’s all-time wins list. A biology and education major at Simpson, Young was a four-time Academic All-American. After graduating from Simpson, he earned a master’s degree in education leadership from Drake in 2004. Now, Young pilots one of the most successful high school wrestling programs in the state of Iowa, leading Indianola High School to top six finishes at the state tournament in each of the last five years. He also teaches chemistry and coaches middle school football. Matt and his wife, Jaime, and children Anna (7) and Ryan (4) reside in Indianola.
