Bio

A two-sport star for the Storm in the late nineties in football and wrestling, Jeremy Whalen experienced success on the field and the mat. A three-year letterwinner in football, the defensive lineman earned First-Team All-American honors in 1997 and was selected to play in the Aztec Bowl, the Division III all-star game. A two-time first team all-conference selection in, Whalen helped the Storm to a 29-5 record in his last three seasons, including back-to-back Iowa Conference Championships in 1996-97 and a run into the third round of the national playoffs in 1997. As a wrestler, Whalen compiled a career record of 88-22 and lettered three times, winning the conference heavyweight crown in 1997-98. A sixth-place finish at the 1997 national tournament resulted in All-American status for Whalen, as Simpson went on to finish 17th at the Division III National Championship. A year later, Whalen helped the Storm to its highest placing at nationals, a fifth-place performance. Whalen is a Gold Club member and served Simpson as an assistant football coach from 1999-2002 and assistant wrestling coach from 1999-2003. He graduated with a B.A. degree in 1999 in education before receiving a Master’s in education from Fort Hays State in 2005. Whalen currently works as a P.E. teacher and assistant football and wrestling coach at Indianola Community Schools and Irving Elementary in Indianola. He resides in Indianola with his wife, Nicolle (a Simpson graduate), and their children Walker, Will and Khloe.
