Shannon Stewart put together one of the most dominant seasons in Simpson volleyball history in 2003, putting her among the best to ever wear the Red and Gold.

Stewart’s junior season was a memorable one, as she became Simpson’s first Iowa Conference MVP in nine years. The 6-foot outside hitter dominated the Iowa Conference, tallying 486 kills and leading the league with 4.3 kills per set. She earned Iowa Conference Player of the Week honors three times and led the Storm to a 23-10 record and 6-2 mark in the league, good for second place. A resilient Simpson squad beat three teams ranked in the top 25 and finished the season ranked No. 24 in the AVCA Coaches’ Poll. Stewart’s signature performance came in a five-set win over No. 25 Nebraska Wesleyan when she buried 31 kills, hits .467 and had 11 total blocks.

Stewart ranks in the top 10 in Simpson history in career blocks (5th, 384), aces (5th, 384), kills (7th, 1,360), hitting percentage (8th, .230) and digs (9th, 1,165). She is one of just seven players in school history to collect more than 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs.

Originally from Urbandale, Iowa, Stewart graduated from Simpson with a degree in marketing.
