Bio

Weston Sharp was a three-sport athlete for Simpson, earning letters in football, basketball and track & field during his career. He started at Simpson in 1940 and graduated in 1949, serving his country in the Army Air Corp from 1943-46. As an Air Age Education Consultant at the Iowa Aeronautics Commission in Des Moines from 1958-75, Sharp developed programs to help Iowa educators learn and teach aviation curriculums. He also developed the Iowa Airport Directory, a document still in use today. When astronaut Neal Armstrong visited Iowa, Sharp personally piloted his trip. Along with Chuck Laverty, Sharp started one of the first aerial application operations in Iowa. He also spent time as a high school teacher and coach from. Sharp passed away in 1975, and is survived by his wife, LaVonne Fitch ’46, and children Connie, Terry, Tim and Candace.
