Joesph L. Blake was a standout football and baseball player, leading two of the best teams in school history -- in either sport.

Blake was a four-year starter under center for the football team, going 28-13 while leading the Redmen to a conference championship in 1988 and NCAA Playoff appearances in 1988 and 1989. As a junior, Blake led all of Division III in quarterback effeciency, completing 64.6 percent of his passes with 19 TDs and just three INTs.

On the diamond, Blake played right field for Simpson teams that went to the NCAA Tournament in 1990 and 1991. The 1991 team advanced all the way to the College World Series after winning the Iowa Conference title. Blake hit better than .400 in each of his last three seasons, including a team-high .426 with seven home runs and 31 RBIs in 1991. He hit .438 in 1990 and .405 in 1992.
