Storm Top 10 Countdown: No. 4

The 2011-12 season brought us many great moments. From thrilling overtime wins, to conference championships, to milestone achievements, this past year was a true testament to the success experienced by student-athletes at Simpson.

Your votes for the top moments of the 2011-12 season have been tallied. Now, we will reveal the results as we re-live our favorite moments of the year.

No. 4: Arey throws perfect game

Kacee Arey had a busy season in 2012.

The junior right-handed pitcher from Lucas, Iowa, threw nearly 90 percent of Simpson’s innings during the season, throwing complete games in 33 of her 39 starts. At season’s end, Arey was a second team all-conference pick, a third-team all-district performer and was among the nation’s leaders with 26 wins.

Despite all the events that made 2012 a memorable campaign, the moment that sticks out the most came in early March during the team’s annual trip to the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.

On Wednesday, March 7, Arey put herself in elite company by becoming the first Simpson pitcher to throw a perfect game since 2005. That day, the Storm beat Catholic University 11-0 in five innings. Arey faced the minimum of 15 batters and struck out two.

Before Arey reached perfection, Simpson’s last such effort came when Marissa Campbell threw a perfect game in a 8-0, five-inning win over Crown on April 3, 2005. Callie Hohneke threw the last no-hitter, a 2-1 win over Luther on April 5, 2008.
