No. 5: Softball players leave mark on record books

No mark in the Simpson softball career record book was safe in 2012.

The Storm softball team is in the midst of a period in the program’s history that has produced some of the gaudiest offensive numbers. Fittingly, seven of the eight career records which fell in 2012 were set at the plate.

Veronica Roshek, Tieryn Potratz and Keri Sorensen were the main culprits in the assult of the record book.

Roshek, a slap-hitting senior from Urbandale, Iowa, wrapped up career records for hits (180), at-bats (507) and walks (71). Potratz, a right-handed junior slugger from Ames, Iowa, added to her already impressive resume by setting career records for runs scored (112), doubles (32), RBIs (102) and total bases (279). Sorensen, a versatile, right-handed senior from Bettendorf, Iowa who ranks in the top five in several offensive categories, set the mark for assists with 276.

Over the past three seasons, Roshek, Potratz and Sorensen helped Simpson register three of the top five run totals in program history, three of the top five RBI totals and the top three home run totals.
