December Student-Athletes of the Month: MacKenzie Haupt and Jonathan Melton

MacKenzie Haupt led the women's basketball team to a perfect 3-0 record during the month and wrestler Jonathan Melton broke into the national rankings at 149 pounds as the duo was named Student-Athletes of the Month for December 2014.

A junior from Clarion, Iowa, Haupt averaged 13.7 ppg in three games during the month. She shot 50 percent from the field and didn't miss a free throw, going a perfect 7-for-7. She led the team in scoring in two of its three wins as Simpson beat Grand View on the road and knocked off Goucher and St. Thomas (Fla.) at the Cruzin' Classic in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

A freshman from Kansas City, Mo., Melton led Simpson with an 8-3 mark during the month of December. Thanks to some key wins, he broke into the d3wrestle.com national rankings as an honorable mention pick at 149 pounds. Among Melton's efforts was a sixth-place finish at Simpson's own Luther L. Invitational at the beginning of the month.
