Rogers, Nelson named October Athletes of the Month
Volleyball player Kim Rogers and football player Taylor Nelson had an October to remember on the way to earning Simpson Student-Athlete of the Month honors.
Kim Rogers, volleyball
Rogers, a senior defensive specialist from Omaha, Neb., helped
Simpson qualify for the Iowa Conference Tournament for the first
time since 2010. She earned Capital One Academic All-District 8
First Team honors, qualifying for Academic All-America
consideration. She led Simpson with 220 digs during the month and
closed her career with 1,375 digs, good for fifth in Simpson
history.
Taylor Nelson, football
Nelson, a senior quarterback from West Des Moines, Iowa, earned
IIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors twice while leading
Simpson to a 3-1 mark. He threw for 1,054 yards with six touchdowns
and just two interceptions while completing 67.1 percent of his
passes. He surpassed Mike Donnenwerth as Simpson’s career
leader in touchdown passes when he threw his 67th in an overtime
win over Coe. In that game, Nelson accounted for six touchdowns,
throwing for 332 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 67
yards and three scores.
